SECRETARY

The Secretary Bird.
A Large African Bird.

The secretary in an orgnisation plays a variety of roles, including that of ofice-wife, nurse-maid, girl-friday, information centre, sounding board, devil's advocate, gate-keeper and many others. She is also known occasionally to type, file, and keep appointments.

One of the less glamorous roles is that of a facilitator in all forms of organisational communication - be it gossip or a symposium, written reports or telling a white lie. In fact, the better she is in this role the larger her power-base and indispensibility, and by extension, the brighter her chances of working her way up the organisation.

Meetings - a secretary's role here is undeniably crucial even though it may not be so acknowledged by those in authority.
