WALKING DOWN MEMORY LANE

The worn out secretary.

The Secretary's Prayer

"Help me to have the memory of an elephant, or at least one three years long.
By some small miracle, let me be able to do all things at once, answer four telephones at the same time and type a letter that "must go today" even though I know it won't be signed until tomorrow.
Let me not lose patience when I search files for hours for a paper found on the boss's desk.
Give me the knowledge of a university professor with my intermediate certificate education.
Help me to understand and carry out all instructions without any explanations.
Let me know, without being told, where the boss is, what he is doing, when he will be back.
And when the time comes, grant me the foresight to make six cups of tea when I was told only two."

In 1994 the company i worked for sent all the secretaries for a team building. After the workshop i wrote for the bulletin:

"While to a few it was a trip down a long forgotten era, to most it was a mysterious one. On the very first day as we unravelled the package we found lots of humour, fun and laughter. How we loved it and blessed Staff Training Center for keeping us away from the monotonous duties we had. The excitement lingered on as we dug further into the parcel. We were like children, playing games and were very merry. However, amidst the fun and laughter we were being scrutinized from every angle.

As the days passed by, the parcel reached a turning point. The game was tough, it kept us up till late into the nights. Suddenly, the road we were trudging on seemed all uphill. Bitterness, hatred, foolishness all came into the picture. At this juncture, some quit, some broke into tears, some almost gave up and some began to curse Staff Training Center. Nevertheless, in the noisy confusion we stayed on to face all consequences and challenges.

To our surpirse, as we moved towards the bottom of the parcel, we found ourselves. We found the latent talent we never knew we had, we found love, kindness, compassion, confidence and most of all, we found the one thing called 'unity'.

And as we drew the final curtain, tears welled up in every pair of eyes. Parting is the hardest thing in life."

Team Building is good for everyone as life itself is a actually a team work.
